Next Stage Capacity - Building Workshop on Sustainability

On 14 & 22 May (10:00 to 13:00 CET), FEDORA will hold two workshops in collaboration with Aktionsnetzwerk Nachhaltigkeit - Thema 1, regarding the foundations and environmental management systems & best practises in the cultural sector.

These workshops are designed to allow participants to gain awareness on the challenges surrounding sustainability, also drawing on participants' own experiences. The goal is to build a toolbox by examining case studies of successful sustainable initiatives, as well as exploring immediate opportunities to make your organisation an even more sustainable space.

They are dedicated to emerging artists and creatives within opera and dance companies, including but not limited to stage directors, designers, sound designers, composers, performers, digital creatives, videographers, producers and project managers.


14 May 2024 (10:00 to 13:00 CET)

  • Introduction and Check-In on "What does sustainability signify for you personally and for your institution?” by Katharina Laura Kunz, Project Manager at Aktionznetzwerk Nachhaltigkeit - Thema 1 and Jacob Sylvester Bilabel, Founder and CEO of Aktionetzwerk Nachhaltigkeit - Thema 1.
  • Basics in sustainability 1 Presentation by Jacob Sylvester Bilabel, followed by a a discussion in break-out rooms on "Reflecting on your own work and institution" with Katharina Laura Kunz.
  • Basics in sustainability 2 "net-zero vs. climate neutral, from knowledge to actions" by Jacob Sylvester Bilabel followed by a best practise case on "Sustainability in production and how to integrate sustainability into the artistic program" presented by the French artistic organisation Collectif I.O.


22 May 2024 (10:00 to 13:00 CET)

  • Check in on "What did the impact of the first session have on you personally and in your institution" by Katharina Laura Kunz and Jacob Sylvester Bilabel.
  • Best practice case presentation from the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
  • Group discussions in break out rooms with Katharina Laura Kunz.
  • Footprint of an Opera house with the example of te Deutsche Oper Berlin - Comparison Footprint 2019 to 2023 with Katharina Laura Kunz.
